Ph.D. schools and programmes are designed to provide the student with the relevant competencies for carrying out qualified scientific research at Universities or in public and private bodies.
The admission to the Schools and courses (lasting at least 3 years) is limited. Graduates in different disciplines may apply and, in some cases, Ph.D. students may be awarded a fellowship.
Some courses have places in excess without grant reserved for non-EU citizens who reside abroad.
Graduates holding an Italian degree obtained under the previous teaching regulations or a second-cycle degree or an equivalent foreign academic qualification may participate in the public examination for admission, irrespective of age or citizenship.
If the degree has not been recognised equivalent yet, the applicant must apply for equivalence only to the purpose of competition, enclosing the following documents:
The Chancellor, after consulting the relevant School Committee or the Teaching Staff Committee, depending respectively on whether the course is organised in a School or not, may issue a Decree declaring the degree equivalent only to the purpose of admission to the public examination.
